Can I use the same photo for a visa and a passport?
Only when both authorities specify the same size, background and head-height rules — for example a US passport and a US visa. A 35 × 45 mm passport photo will not be accepted for a US 2 × 2 in visa.
How recent must the photo be?
Most authorities ask for a photo taken within the last few months. Each country page states the exact rule and the source it came from.
Do I need a printed photo or a digital file?
It depends on the application route. Online applications need a digital file with pixel, format and file-size limits; paper applications and some visa centres still require prints. Both are listed on every country page.
