Saudi Arabia Visa Photo Requirements

The eVisa upload and a paper embassy application are not the same process

The tourist eVisa portal is a digital-upload process with its own photo specification [1]. A visa applied for on paper at a Saudi embassy or consulate abroad is a separate process with its own photo requirements, and those requirements are set by the individual mission rather than by a single nationwide page [2][3][4]. Treating one process’s photo as automatically valid for the other risks a rejected upload or a rejected paper application.

The eVisa page states head height two different ways

The eVisa photo-specification page gives the required head height twice in the same sentence: once as a share of the overall frame, and once as a measurement in inches from the chin to the crown of the head [1]. These are offered as alternatives to each other, not as two separate requirements to satisfy at once.

The head-covering exception is narrow

Head wear is not permitted as a general rule [1]. The stated exception is for religious reasons, and even then the face must remain visible from the lower tip of the chin to the forehead, with no shadow cast on the face [1]. A head covering that hides part of the chin, forehead, or hairline outside that narrow exception does not qualify.

Voluminous hair still has to leave the face at full size

Where hair is voluminous, the eVisa page requires that the head — hairstyle included — stay fully depicted, without letting the hairstyle shrink how large the face appears in the frame [1]. A hairstyle that pushes the face smaller to fit inside the frame does not meet this.

A paper mission application can add requirements the eVisa page does not have

Saudi embassy pages for paper applications add specifics the tourist eVisa page does not state at all, such as an outright ban on glasses at one mission [3]. A traveler moving between the eVisa process and a paper embassy application should not assume the two processes share every rule.
